Information on Low Back Pain
Most episodes of low back pain will resolve with 4-6 weeks of conservative care!
Conservative care includes chiropractic care, over the counter medications (as
recommended by your medical doctor) and home remedies such as ice and
topical analgesics. See Dr. McCoy today for a complete evaluation of your
condition, and treatment recommendations!
"Red Flags" that may indicate a serious problem include, but are not limited to:
- Unexplained weight loss
- Changes in bowel or bladder habits
- Recent illness, infection or puncture wound
- Numbness in both legs, or leg weakness
Once you have been evaluated and the cause of your problem
diagnosed, here are some things a Doctor of Chiropractic may
recommend for your condition:
- Periodic chiropractic adjustments - misalignments in the pelvis
and/or lumbar vertebrae may contribute to low back pain, muscle
spasm, and improper body mechanics that may lead to arthritis or
other problems.
- Home care, including ice and/or heat, topical analgesics, and
stretches.
- Orthopedic devices such as heel lifts, shoe orthotics, or a lumbar
support belt may be recommended depending on the nature and
cause of your low back pain.
- Once your pain has diminished, the doctor may recommend
exercizes to strengthen your low back, so as to decrease the
likelihood of future low back pain.
